My fear was, they -Guayaquil movie theaters- were not going to make it till July 13.
They have surprised me, again.
Midnight premiere, July 10.
Life is happening to me in one-sentence-paragraphs.

Dear, dear. As we’ve been told by Mr. Books that maybe we’ll have to wait till death for Book Seven, Claudieko and I are plotting our only way to salvation. We’ll have the book pre-ordered in Amazon. They’ll ship it to Gye in two days time.
Nice, huh? Let’s be patient, tough. I still have my hopes high on El Librero, respectable people. Ok, they have nothing on Terry Pratchett, and they are always teasing me on bringing on some Neil Gaiman, but still. I bought books from One to Six there. So I thought I could show some loyalty.
Our schemes about the movie, however, are not that neat. Maybe I’ll be invited to the premiere. Maybe she’ll ve taken to the screening. Maybe we’ll go together. There is no big deal there, because the general idea is going at least three times to the movies, and then discuss, and then wait for the dvd to come.
Ah, fandom.
This is proving to be an amazing year already. I got New Year presents. Among them, Cosmo Warrior Zero, some new Matsumoto stuff.
So here goes my comment. The Werecat girl said ”you are gonna love Zero, much more than Harlock”. The characters, she meant. Well, I don’t. I remain true to the scar-faced pirate. But Zero is a fine guy, I admire his efforts to take care of his crew, mechanical men or human. And I like the female character, Marina. She’s not tough, but she’s no china doll, either. She’s very real, to me.
But I must be sincere, the best times of the whole series are those when Tochiro, Emeraldas and Harlock are in scene. I rolled off my bed in laughter when red-clad Emeraldas finds his boyfriend about to be hanged, and asks him how he ended up in that situation, and he starts explaining:
- You know, this babe Sylvianna, she seduced me, and I got confused, and then she got me in this tramp and, xeexee…
- ¬¬ Well. I’ll let you to calm yourself down, then. Later.
And she leaves him hanging from the rope. I absolutely have to watch Warrior Zero again.
NeoTokyo is about to explode.

Haven’t watched it yet; just bought it last night by chance. The little shop where sometimes I find interesting stuff was covered in shojo, some Macross Plus, and j-pop (I will return). Some Ghibli, too (Castle in the sky, Kiki’s delivery service), which are always good, but the werewolf girl had lent those to me before.
These days my mother has gone on a clean-up frenzy, so I was forced to re-arrange my books, movies, and the few comic and manga I’ve got. So I found some things I had forgotten I had: drawings people have done for me (Dragon Ball, Harlock, Justice League), the Ultimate Spiderman number this guy from the Comic Conventions so kindly gave me, my Harlock action figures, my rubber spider and bat, and borrowed stuff I have not given back (four Saint Seiya books I haven’t even read!).
So, it seems this weekend -even if they’re luring me into this ecological thing- will be spend with Akira. I watched it for the first time at this little manga expo four years ago, but the audio wasn’t that good then. Let’s fix that now, ne?
(I just learned this Katsuhiro Otomo pal was involved in Metropolis and Steamboy. Already admire him.)
I got teary all of a sudden. What a crying rat, you’ll say. Ha. But that is because you don’t know. ‘Cause if you would, you’d be as happy as I am now.
And the other rats get my meaning.
I got the email informing me about the new poster for OotP The Movie. I was having a rather hard day at work, so I kept the joy for later.
Then Claudieko the Rat came wheeing and whooing and getting on my nerves, so I went to Mugglenet to see it.
And there was the riot.

But those were not the only good news. I found something you’d call minimal. For me, it was like Christmas before December.

Technically, this is my second gift. On Tuesday, I joined my Mum in her Toy Tour 2006. She selects toys for the children in our church and our family. I behaved, and did a very good job in showing her how ugly some dolls and fake guns were, so I got my reward: my new tiger pet. I’m looking for a name, and when I get the right one, I’ll post the picture. Word.
Every time I get into the Imax theater, comes over me the full realization of my vertigo. And the torture begins. Why do I keep going? Dunno. But my memory seems to forsake me about this little thing.

I spent good part of the whole hour (thanks goodness it didn’t last more) keeping my eyes shut, at the story and at the lava-mountain-riding race led by a successful showbiz demon.
I won’t tell you about the plot, you can google it easily. But I’ll tell you something. Mephistopheles, from Dr. Faustus, didn’t deserve that.
Wait. Maybe… maybe yes, he did. But you don’t. So, if you are going to watch it anyway, please take a pill with you, ’cause it will get you dizzy ever so soon.

I’m not giving it back.
I’ve seen so many drama, comedy, action, shojo and shonen in anime, but never before a sci-fi. Maybe Macross? Robotech? No, those are mechas, I think. Now, I think I got my first true science fiction anime movie with Metropolis.
I couldn’t help but noticing the similarities with Fritz Lang’s Metropolis -specially at Tima’s awakening-, but it wasn’t one of those remakes you feel ashamed of: it was awesome. Tima is so beautiful (in the Ozamu Tezuka trade mark beauty) you can’t but love her. And Kenichi’s courage doesn’t stop him from being a child, sometimes powerless against adults; and the uncle trying to show more braveness than he has, all because of Kenichi… and Pero. You have to look Pero in the eyes even if they’re as static as any robot’s.
“Why do humans have to solve their problems by violence?”, Pero asks.
And the man saying that it’s a good question, because humans are led by strong emotions, emotions they have to expand even by violence, to be set apart from robots, and then he shoots Pero in the head, and revolution begins.
I don’t care much about tech devices. But the story of the ziggurat backfiring in its makers, the gods punishing people for going so far… Or is it our own foolishness what makes the fall all the worse?
And the music. Jazz music. During the chaos. Jazz. If world has to go down some day, I would like God to make us the favor of let us go while the band is playing jazz. So, in the end, there’ll be no goodbyes.
